About
Lin Dewsnap

Lin Dewsnap is a contemporary artist whose work explores the complexity of the human condition through expressive watercolours, striking figurative sculptures, and thought-provoking puppetry.

Living in Oxfordshire, Lin draws inspiration from everyday life, blending dark humour with raw emotion to question societal norms and challenge collective assumptions. Her creative journey, shaped by a late diagnosis of neurodiversity and a lifetime of introspection, reflects a persistent search for meaning and a commitment to storytelling through art.

As a self-described outsider, Lin's artistic practice is deeply influenced by her fascination with the human psyche, social systems, and the environment. Her works often highlight themes of neglect, discrimination, and resilience, driven by a personal history of overcoming obstacles and a deep empathy for the struggles of others. From surrealism to expressionism, Lin’s inspiration includes Marlene Dumas, Egon Schiele, Alice Neel, and Francis Bacon, whose fearless portrayals of the human experience echo in her art.

Lin’s professional journey began later in life, transitioning from a career in social work to art after discovering her creative voice through adult education classes. With a degree and Master’s in Fine Art from Oxford Brookes University, she has developed a distinctive style that merges theory with raw, expressive forms. Lin has participated in numerous exhibitions and residencies, creating works that captivate and provoke community projects and workshops, emphasising connection, creativity, and well-being.
